February 28

Math : This week we are working on a new chapter (Chapter 9, inequalities). On Thursday we will have a special activity day for the Francophone week. I will be handing back the Midterm exams on Wednesday. 

Science:
We will work on the review questions of our 3rd unit and on brain maps in order to prepare for the unit exam on March 9th. We will also begin our 4th unit: Electricity.
Bring your can of Sweetened Condensed Milk!
Do not forget 8$ for your Poutine on Thursday March 5th.

Social Studies:
Students will be working on group projects in regards to Chapter 5. They are asked to create a tourism pamphlet highlighting information and immigration incentives about a chosen Canadian province. This project is expected to be handed in on March 6th.

ELA:
No Language Power for the whole month of March! Here is a copy of the calendar for all Book Talk presentations, your class is orange.

You also have some poems to write this week. Remember, by the end of this month you will be sharing one of your original poems with the class. Your free verse will be done for Monday March 2nd. You were given a rubric last week so don't lose it. You can also find it on last week's blog.

FLA:
We will start the week with a listening comprehension exercise:  A podcast that explores how to verify a photo that is circulating on social media.  For the remainder of the week we will begin our PAT preparations, starting with the essay.  We will develop an essay plan together and independently, then we will study the rubric in order to get a good sense of the expectations.

Week of Feb. 24th

Math:
Grade 9 students are writing their midterms this week. This will be over the course of 3 days. Expect results by Monday of next week posted on Power School. Good luck everyone!


Science:
Study sheet for theme 4 module 3 is due Tuesday.

As per usual, marks are posted every few days, take a look at Power School!


FLA:
On Monday, February 24 the planning (script) for your podcast is due.  You will have Monday and Tuesday's classes to practice and record your podcast.  The final product is due on Wednesday, February 26.  For the remainder of the week we will have the chance to listen to some of the podcasts. We will also go to the library to sign out new independent reading novels, and we will have the chance to start reading them towards the end of the week.

9ème ES (new marks were added on Powerschool)

I would like to welcome back Myriam Salhi, Uof C last year student teacher. She will be involved with teaching on a daily basis.   Students will develop their knowledge on immigration laws and politics in Canada. A quick test is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th.



ELA: 
Make sure LP LP 29 & 30 are done for Friday 27th. We will be starting our poetry unit with Mr.Lopez this week so get ready to stand on your desks! Before spring break, all students will have written 3 poems and shared one with the class. Those students going to Bamfield need not worry, as they will present their poem after the break. We discussed the figurative language found in 2 songs this week & made some notes:

Week of Feb 18

FLA:  On Tuesday February 18 you will have a quiz on the subjunctive tense.  Following that, you will have time to work on a podcast project where you will use the subjunctive tense to create a "how-to" episode.


SS: We would like to welcome Myriam Salhy back for her last practicum before she graduates from Uof C. She will be working with students full time starting next week. Chapter 5 is in progress.  Immigration Homework due for Tuesday 18 along with an article found on-line.

Science:
Review sheet for theme 3 module 3 is due Thursday.
Test on themes 1, 2 and 3 also on Thursday.

By now, everyone should have chosen a date to present their Book Talk. Remember to look at the rubric & use it to create an awesome visual. You will be getting a speaking, writing and representing mark for this project.


Math : We are studying for the Midterm all week. Students will receive review sheets and will have homework to practice. The Midterm will be in 3 parts starting on February 25th and Ending on February 27th. Students should spend time every day practicing.

Week of Feb 10th

SS: There will be a test chapter 4 on Tuesday, Feb 11. It will be like a PAT format. We will also start chapter 5 on Immigration.

FLA:  Last week we finished up our novel study.  Since the beginning of January, we have had 1-2 days per week to work towards completing the response booklet and journal entries.  Last week there were 3 days that were given to finish this up.  These are due on Monday, February 10th.  This week, we will be learning a new verb tense:  The subjunctive.  I will teach you how and when to use this verb tense, then we will take some notes and engage in some practice activities.

ELA:
BookTalk due before March 19th. You need to read a book, create a visual, and present it to the class. The purpose of everything you do is to persuade your peers to read the book. I've included some project ideas in this rubric but please think outside the box & come up with your own brilliant ideas! As soon as you are ready to present, let me know so we can check this off your TO DO LIST.

Math : Students are finishing their Chapter 4 in class. We will have a Quiz on Wednesday to review the chapter. Next week, we begin our review for the Midterm. We will take 4 days to study in class and the midterm will take place on February  24,25 and 26 in 3 parts. Students should begin their review right away.
