If you are not happy with your grade on your past tense test and you would like to take a re-test, you will have until the end of this week to attend a tutorial (Monday, Wednesday or first half on Tuesday). Attendance is mandatory in order to participate in the re-test which will take place at lunch on Monday, October 7th.
This week we will begin a writing assignment. You will be writing an anecdote about an event from your past. This anecdote will be written to demonstrate your knowledge of the past tense and with an emphasis on descriptive language. Week of September 23rd
Math : This week we are working on an assignment to practice order of
operation. We are also reviewing for our test on rational numbers. The
test for grade 9 students will be on Monday September 30th. I encourage
parents to log on power school to see the results for the first quiz of
the year. Have a great week!
Science:
Last week students built and handed in their first study sheet (Feuille d'étude thème 1 module 1) and worked on an morphological diversity activity.
This week students will build and hand in a study sheet on theme 2 (Thursday), complete and hand in their first lab report (page 9 of their textbook)
Do not forget to bring me a proof that you showed the Science Outline to your parents!
Updates: Study sheet theme 2 due tomorrow. Lab report due Friday. Test on themes 1 and 2 Monday the 30th. Notes de cours module 1
FLA:
We have been spending the week reinforcing our review and learning of the past tense. We will have a quiz on Wednesday September 23 for everything we have learned about the passé composé and imparfait verb tenses. Students have a purple notes booklet they can reference. On Tuesday we will be going to the library where Ms. Fitz will remind us about the rules and systems of the learning commons. We will also have a chance to sign out an independent reading novel or non-fiction book. You will be expected to read this on your own time at home. In a month or two, you will have independent conversations with me about your novel so that you can tell me about what you have been reading!
ELA:
We had a spelling test, Morrison & McCall, on Friday. The words start easy & get more difficult as we get to 50. Grade nines should be getting 43+ correct to demonstrate an "at grade level" for spelling. We will be doing this test about 3 times per year.
We have been creating BookFlix for our favorite books this week. Working on Language Power and talking about the poem by Rudyard Kipling "If". Poetry needs to be discussed and annotated so that we can understand it on a deeper level. Students will also be brainstorming some of their own ideas about advice to the future them! It should also include advice about what they wished they had known. All this planning, talking and brainstorming will help them greatly, when we write our own "If" poems next week.
